European Accent

Throughout this tour, you’ll move through Europe by canal, river, road and coast, with every border bringing a shift in sound, scent and feeling. The Rhine carries you past steep vineyards and castle-topped banks, before Venice draws you into the soft knock of boats on the water. Rome and Avignon bring centuries of papal history into the cool hush of churches and stone courtyards. Tuscany has you travelling past cypress-lined hills and vineyard rows, with dinners perhaps fragrant with olive oil, rosemary, tomato and warm bread. On the French Riviera, you might notice the smell of espresso drifting from open cafe doors, while Monaco offers you a glimpse of yacht hulls and marble floors gleaming around the harbour. In Paris, you may follow the lines of horse-chestnut trees along the Champs-Élysées, pausing perhaps to pick up a souvenir or two. Or maybe the scent of buttery pastries wafting from bakery windows will pull you along one of the city’s cobbled streets.
